Food quality and safety are vital requirements for all food handlers in food supply chain including end consumers. It’s well known that safe food is deemed important for public health and to maintain quality of life. However, the success of food supply chain to provide consumers with high quality and safe food contributes to enhancing consumers’ confidence in market, improving food trade, strengthening food control, and encouraging tourism and entertainment. Therefore, achieving food quality and safety in Saudi Arabia is a priority for the Saudi Vision 2030; and one of the major elements to enhance public health, improve the quality of life, and develop the tourism and entertainment sectors. With recent development in science and technology, providing comprehensive food quality and safety technical solutions in any food chain steps are a foundation in enhancing customers and consumers’ confidence and loyalty.



Food quality and safety management are an internationally recognized systems, as there are hundreds of international and local standards related to food quality and safety. Food safety affects human health as food can transmit many hazards (i.e., microbial, chemical, physical and/or radiological) to the consumer causing a group of diseases known as "foodborne diseases". The term "food safety" refers to a set of food handling practices that aim to prevent food contamination and to ensure that it would reach consumers free of hazards and suitable for human consumption. Therefore, appropriate and effective food safety systems must be in place to ensure a safe food supply chain. These systems include Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP). Moreover, total quality management and food quality control programs are considered one of the most important capabilities of food facilities to improve conformity and compliance to relevant standards and specifications. However, implementation of quality systems along with food safety would ensure achieving high consumers’ confidence while substantially decrees food waste.

Implementation of Food Quality and Safety Management Systems

This service supports food facilities to establish, operate, and accredit quality management systems, and food quality and safety management systems.

This service targets ONLY food handlers. It supports food facilities to develop appropriate training and educational plans to ensure that their food handlers maintain sufficient skills and knowledge.

Electronic Services

Doyen Food Technology Co. is working on launching an electronic document management system (DMS) dedicated to archive and control documents related to food quality and safety. The DMS will also record and document food quality and safety activities including, but not limited to, check lists, observation forms, and inventory. The DMS would provide customers with two choices of documentation system: GMP and HACCP. It will also provide documentation solutions for food quality control (second stage). Moreover, the DMS will contain a specialized library for scientific, educational, and regulatory contents (e.g., manuals, videos, posters); in addition to user guide to operate the DMS effectively. It will also provide subscribers with easy-to-follow summary reports, and analysis of food safety activities such as environment check, material receiving, inventory, and documents list among others. However, to ensure the quality of services, the DMS is designed in an easy-to-use concept with attractive designs.
